Independent Examiner Recommends Draft Plan for Referendum

The independent examiner carried out the work to review the draft neighbourhood plan after her appointment in the autumn.
The work was completed in the scheduled time – and the Steering Group would like to thank the examiner for her diligent and thorough work.  Minor recommendations, amendments and clarifications were fully accepted.  The examiner’s report is available to read here:

The examiner’s report will be presented to the town council at their meeting at  6:30pm on Tuesday 4 February, 2025, to accept the modifications recommended by the Examiner and commend the Tavistock Plan to West Devon Borough Council for acceptance and progression to referendum.Details of the Tavistock Town Council meeting are here:

We look forward to a referendum on the plan for the town. This will be your opportunity to support the plan.
We hope you’ll be happy to show your support for the first plan in which the community has been able to have a say on the future of the town.

As a reminder adopting the plan will:

Allow Tavistock to draw down Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) funding from future developments when CIL is introduced in addition to Section 106 funding.

Protect 44 local  green spaces within the town and parish from inappropriate development.

Safeguard community assets like Tavistock Hospital and recreation facilities such as  the Tennis Club so that they must be retained or replaced.

Provide design guidance on any new developments that are built in the future, including protections for the environment and against flooding.

Prevent landscape views towards the moors from being developed in ways that would detract from those views.

KEEP IN TOUCH We will keep you updated on all developments in the coming months. In the meantime, keep an eye on our website, local and social media. As always, you can get in touch with us at: [email protected]
