Tavistock Town Council unanimously approve submission of Tavistock Neighbourhood Development Plan
We’re very pleased to announce that on July 30th, 2024, Tavistock Town Council as the ‘Qualifying Body’ for the Tavistock Neighbourhood Development Plan, unanimously supported the submission of the Tavistock Neighbourhood Development Plan and associated documents to West Devon Borough Council and Dartmoor National Park Authority as the local planning authorities for the neighbourhood plan area.
Why the Neighbourhood plan is important to all Tavistock residents
(10 minute video presentation of the plan)
The NDP is of critical importance for protecting the character of Tavistock in the face of huge changes in national housing policy. We believe residents will want it in place before those changes take place.

Key Policies
When it is passed at referendum we will have a land use plan for Tavistock that:

Protects local green spaces

Enhances and supports flood interventions for run-off and for consideration before new development occurs

Identifies and protects important local moor views and the historic town centre.

Supports community-led affordable housing for local people

Evidences and supports the need for an extra care facility

Identifies the core retail area of Tavistock and adds support for its retention as a market town

Provides the evidence and support for community projects for funding like: Tavistock Skate park The Abbey Project Clubhouse for Tavistock Athletics Club and other sports and play park improvements, and a Community Arts Facility

Provides recognition for local historic properties that have not been recognised in any other local plan.

Prevents local car parks from being redeveloped without replacement
